Good lubricating oil
There will be sediment when placed
Some people say that the quality of the lubricating oil is poor
Is it really because the quality of the lubricating oil is poor?
Today, I will show you why the lubricating oil has precipitated.
Sometimes, when our lubricating oil is stored, we find some sediment at the bottom of the barrel. Some people say that this is caused by the poor quality of the lubricating oil. In fact, it is not. Sedimentation is a normal phenomenon, and the bottom layer is precipitated by additives.
Generally, there are additives in lubricating oil. In some cases, the additives will precipitate, which is a normal phenomenon. For example, at low temperature, some oils will have this problem, and the small amount of precipitates are precipitated additives.
Why do additives precipitate?
1. Additives for lubricating oil
The base oil of engine oil accounts for about 90%, and the remaining 5%~10% is additive. The quality of base oil is crucial to the performance of lubricating oil. It provides the most basic lubrication, cooling, oxidation resistance, corrosion resistance and other properties for lubricating oil. According to custom, the base oil extracted from petroleum by physical distillation is called mineral oil, and the base oil obtained by chemical synthesis is called synthetic oil.
Base oil determines the quality of lubricating oil. In the production of high-grade lubricating oil, hydrogenated base oil has good viscosity-temperature properties and the sensitivity of antioxidant additives. The use of hydrotreated base oil has promoted the improvement of lubricating oil quality, but its solubility to additives is relatively small.
2. Additive cold start performance at low temperature
Generally, high-quality lubricating oil has extremely high cleanliness, low density and excellent low-temperature performance. It is necessary to ensure that the engine oil has good low-temperature cold start performance under extremely cold and low temperature conditions. Therefore, its additives will inevitably have some precipitation, which is a normal phenomenon of high-quality oil.
3. The precipitation of lubricating oil is normal
In the production of lubricating oil, hydrotreated base oil has good viscosity-temperature performance, sensitivity of antioxidant additives, and the amount is increasing. The use of hydrotreated base oil promotes the improvement of lubricating oil quality, but it also has the characteristics of low solubility of additives. The three times deep hydroisomerization ultra-high viscosity index base oil adopted by the company has a cleanliness comparable to that of ordinary base oil. It has extremely high cleanliness, low density and excellent low-temperature performance. It is necessary to ensure that the engine oil has good low-temperature cold start performance under extremely cold and low temperature conditions.
Therefore, the additives will inevitably precipitate, which is a normal phenomenon of high-quality oil products.
Lubricant deposits will not affect performance
In short, the grade of base oil selected for engine oil is inversely proportional to the solubility of additives. The deeper the base oil is refined, the worse the solubility of additives is.
Therefore, it is also a normal phenomenon if the lubricating oil products precipitate, which will not affect the service performance of the lubricating oil.
